Koshur Doon Verr is a salty and spicy porridge prepared from rice and walnuts. The porridge's distinctive aroma makes it a real kashmiri authentic dish. It is an auspicious food prepared on special occasions like wedding or baby showers and offered to God. The walnut pieces dipped in aromatic porridge tastes extremely delicious.
RECIPE:
Doon verr is prepared in 3 steps:
1. Cooking the rice.
2. Preparing the spices.
3. Mixing the spices and rice.
INGREDIENTS:
1. Rice 1 Cup (1 cup makes 10 servings)
2. Walnuts 1/2 Cup
3. Oil 1/2 cup
4. Asafoetida / Hing 1 small piece
5. Cumin seeds 1/2 Tsp6. cloves 3-4 no
7. Red chilly powder 1 tsp
8. Salt as per taste
METHOD:
1. Wash Rice and add to a pressure cooker along with water 4 cups and salt. Pressure cook it till 4 whistles. Open the lid when steam escapes.
2.Mash the rice with the help of a laddle
3. Add 2cups of water.
4. Now heat oil in a pan, add asafoetida, cumin seeds, cloves, red chilly powder one by one
5 Let the spices sputter and add it to the cooked rice.
6 Cook the verr for 10min
